When travelling with cancer, your concerns will undoubtedly be on your health – as well as your holiday. However, this doesn’t have to spoil your holiday. Obviously there will be some extra precautions and preparations that you need to be mindful of in case you need any help or treatment whilst abroad.

Firstly, make sure that you have comprehensive travel insurance for cancer patients. Getting a specific policy for cancer will mean that you are covered for emergency specialised medicines and treatments which you may not be covered for under an ordinary policy, should you need it.

Travel with people that are aware of your condition and know how much medication you should be taking or carrying. It’s easy to forget to take any kind of medication, so having another pair of eyes will certainly make sure that you stay on track. You should also make sure that you carry adequate supplies of any routine medications that you have to take, so that you have enough to last for the duration of your trip plus a small emergency supply.

At the airport make sure that your medications are all in their boxes and labelled as prescription medication with your name on them. Airport authorities could become suspicious if you are found to be carrying unmarked boxes of pills and this obviously wouldn’t be a good way to start your holiday.

Do bring some emergency contact cards, spare prescriptions and your travel insurance documents overseas, as these will need to be seen should you need to buy more medication or pop into a clinic for any reason.

Finally there are the usual travel tips that affect everyone, no matter what their condition. If you’re in a hot country, make sure that you keep your fluid intake up and keep body parts out of direct contact with the sun. These two things alone will ensure that you have the energy to keep going throughout the day.

Obviously meals help too! Take advantage of resting when you can and make sure that you have had any jabs necessary for specific continental diseases that are prevalent in your chosen destination.

Traveller insurance is designed to give you peace of mind if anything happens to go wrong. Your travel agent might have helped with all the flights, hotel bookings and excursions, but you might want to think again about the agent’s offer to arrange travel insurance:

the travel agent seems to have done a good job arranging all the nuts and bolts of your travel plans and the travel insurance quote – as just one extra add-on – appears to be a reasonable incidental expense;

it’s a convenient offer, since you’re already dealing with the agent and might save yourself another trip to the high street to arrange insurance;

but given all the things that might go wrong during your travels, you might consider traveller insurance to be rather more than just another incidental expense;

instead, therefore, you might prefer to buy it from a provider dedicated specifically to the travel insurance industry and a finger on the pulse of the whole market;

you might then take reassurance from the fact that your traveller insurance comes from a provider with particular experience and expertise in the insurance business alone;

you might also take comfort from the fact that an independent travel insurance agent or broker typically has far wider access than your travel agent to the whole of the market and may, therefore, be able to identify especially attractive and competitively priced policies that suit your particular needs;

you don’t have to stop there, of course. Your travel agent might have offered you one travel insurance quote and an independent broker another. If you want a still wider basis for comparison, you may wish to request additional quotes;

thanks to the ease, speed and convenience of the internet, it is not difficult to request a travel insurance quote from any number of specialist online travel insurance providers;

when you come to compare those quotes, of course, your criteria for selection are likely to be shaped by the insurance cover you need, in the light of the travel you propose and your personal circumstances;

if you are travelling on a budget, with little in the way of baggage and in rude good health, you might consider that basic cover, at a discounted insurance premium, is the cover that suits you, otherwise, you might want to pay somewhat more for greater protection and peace of mind;

in either event, of course, it is important that you compare like with like – and cover for cover – before finally deciding on the travellers insurance that is most suitable for you.

Traveling is a passion which is cherished by many of you. It provides you the much needed break from the monotony of day to day life and makes you refreshed and energetic so that you can start new initiatives with much vigor. And not to mention, all of you want to make your traveling experience free from all hazards and free from risks. Ere lies the importune of having the necessary travel insurance policy in place. Anyways, here we concentrate upon the different types of travel insurance policies available at the market place.

Single trip travel insurance

Single trip travel insurance policy provides coverage to you and your family members for a single trip that you want to make. This provides protection for trip cancellation or interruption, medical coverage only for the period of the trip. Single trip travel insurance policy offered by some travel insurers also includes some additional coverages.

Multi trip or annual travel insurance policy

This travel insurance policy is targeted to the frequent travelers. If you go on holidays for more than once in a year, this type of travel insurance policy is suitable for you. The number of trips and the total number of days are specified by the insurers. If you purchase this policy, you can avail good discounts and other benefits such as golf cover, business cover, sports packages, winter holidaying and many more.

Business travel insurance

If you are a business traveler, you can opt for this travel insurance policy. In majority of the cases, the costs of business travel insurance policy are borne by your employers. Coverages include flight cancellations, delays in departure, medical costs and many other things that may happen during the travel.

Long stay travel insurance policy

Long stay travel insurance policies are sold by many insurers for a long duration of 3 to 18 months. This policy is usually purchased by those who go for long vacation and travel extensively. Generally, all the basic travel insurance coverages are offered by these policies. Long stay travel insurance policy offered by some insurers also includes some additional benefits.

Group travel insurance policy

Visiting to a place in a group is indeed a great fun. While you are on such a trip, then you can opt for group travel insurance policy. Instead of providing travel insurance policy to the members of the group individually, it provides protection to the entire group.

Before taking out a travel insurance policy, first decide in which category you actually belong and then purchase the relevant travel insurance policy.

If you are taking any type of trip or holiday, whether it is in the UK or abroad then cover for travel may be worth considering. Wherever you choose to travel if you have insurance to fall back onto you are typically protected against numerous events.

Protection when travelling abroad

If you are travelling abroad then one of the biggest differences between many countries and the UK is that you have to pay for medical costs in the event of illness or accident (though in the European Economic Area there are schemes offer reduced cost healthcare via an EHIC card).

If you were to suffer an injury or illness that was severe, the costs may be enormous, especially if you have to be flown back to the UK by air ambulance. Even a broken bone comes with costs when out of the country. Due to this, it is essential that you have insurance, otherwise the costs have to come out of your own pocket, and they may rise into many thousands of pounds.

Of course there are also numerous other events which may occur and which may cause distress and cost to yourself if you do not have insurance to rely on. Here are some of the benefits you may find in the typical cover for travel policy:

if your trip were to be cancelled you may get up to so much money back;

the same may apply if your holiday or trip was to be interrupted;

your luggage may be stolen or it may be lost and a policy may typically cover this for up to so much;

if you were to suffer a liability claim against you there are legal costs and the policy may pay up to so much towards these.

The above are just some of the many benefits that you may find in the typical insurance policy for travel. However, it is important to check the terms and conditions of the policy to ensure that you know what is and is not protected.

Travel cover for the UK and other specific types of holidays

Providers also offer insurance tailored for specific events and types of holiday. For instance when holidaying in the UK you typically do not have to pay for medical costs in the event of an accident or illness. However, you still have to get home from your destination, which might be difficult if you have a broken leg and have a coach journey booked to get you back; plus there is still the threat of lost baggage or you having to cancel the holiday. There may also be travel delays and costs for a stay in alternative accommodation, which the policy typically covers up to so much of.

You may also enjoy playing golf and take a break on some of the finest courses in the UK. In this case, you may wish to look into taking out golf travel insurance. This policy supplements your travel insurance and typically provides protection for a loss of golfing equipment including clubs. It may also provide protection towards you having to hire equipment in the event of yours being stolen.

If you prefer winter sports then you might want to include winter sports protection in your policy. This typically provides valuable cover for travel if you were to suffer injury or illness whilst on holiday and typically covers many other events.

You either love golf or you hate it, and if you love it then you probably take a golfing holiday sometime in the year. Here in the UK, there are numerous wonderful golf courses, some of which are known the world over, so you do not have to venture abroad if you do not want to. While golf is a popular hobby it is not one of the cheapest so you may wish to ensure that you have adequate golf travel cover when you venture out for your holiday, whether here or abroad.

What may be included in your golf insurance?

Perhaps you have never heard of golf insurance and have no idea of the benefits to taking out cover. Golf cover is typically taken out as a supplement to travel insurance. Depending on your chosen provider and level of insurance taken, you may benefit from the following features typically found in a policy:

protection for your golf clubs whether they are lost or damaged and this may include whether you own or rent them;

the costs for hiring replacement clubs for up to a certain period of time;

the provider may treat you to drinks at the bar, up to so much, if you manage to get a hole in one and have to pay for the customary round.

As mentioned above, golf travel cover is a supplementary form of insurance that is typically specifically tailored for your equipment. You may also wish to include travel cover and this protects against a wide range of events that otherwise may cause you financial loss, particularly if you are going to be travelling to clubs abroad.

Travel insurance overall typically provides the following protection. However, it is essential to check with the insurance provider before taking out the policy so there are no nasty surprises in the event of a claim:

the policy may protect against the possibility of you having to cancel your golfing holiday if you were to fall ill or if you were made redundant and did not have the money to go on holiday. It may also cover the possibility of you having to cut short your holiday;

ere you to have to cancel due to a family member dying or an illness which meant you were unable to go the policy may cover you;

if travel delays meant that you had to stay in alternative accommodation then your policy may pay towards the costs;

the typical policy may cover such things as lost tickets or if your luggage was to be stolen or lost.

If you plan to take a golfing holiday outside of the UK then you may wish to ensure that you have health cover in your golf travel cover. If you were to fall ill when abroad and you did not have protection, you are usually liable to pay all or some of the costs. These costs may include treatment at the emergency room, Doctors or Dentist depending where you go; these may include any x-rays, surgery, or medication, which all may add up to a considerable sum of money. With travel insurance, the policy typically pays out towards these costs.

If you are considering taking a holiday, you may want to ensure that you choose the right travel insurance cover. While for the majority of times everything goes as planned, there is always the possibility that something unexpected may occur and without insurance, it may work out to be very costly for you, as well as stressful.

Insurance for travel may cover a wide range of possibilities from losing your luggage to paying out for emergency medical costs if you suffer a serious accident. While what is and is not included in the typical policy may vary between providers, you may typically find the following included.

protection against the possibility of having to cancel your holiday due to being made redundant. Providers may offer up to so much money towards a pre-booked holiday if you were to lose your job;

if your travel agency were to go out of business the policy may typically cover the costs;

if your journey is interrupted the policy may cover you;

the policy may cover a loss of luggage or provide protection if it was stolen;

health care costs if you become injured, suffer an accident, or fall ill whilst on holiday;

protection in the event that you have to be brought home by air ambulance after an accident or illness.

There are numerous different types of add-on protection that you may wish to include in your policy, depending on what type of holiday you are taking.

Protection for holidays in the UK

Travel insurance cover is also needed when holidaying in the UK. Providers may offer protection that covers such as having to cancel the holiday, if there are additional costs as the result of travel delays as you have to stay in alternative accommodation. The policy may also cover lost or stolen luggage and tickets.

Golfing holidays

Golfing holidays are very popular among golfing enthusiasts and if taking to the greens you may wish to take out golf travel cover in with your travel insurance. This type of policy may typically protect against a loss of clubs and any other golfing equipment. It may also cover replacement hire for clubs or payout for a round of drinks if you were to get a hole in one.

Winter sports insurance

If you are going to a colder climate to take part in winter sports then you may want to look into covering yourself with winter sports insurance. This insurance is typically designed for those who take part in such as snowboarding or skiing. Along with providing protection against accidents and illness, the policy may typically provide protection for a wide range of possibilities. You may have protection for the loss of prescription medicines, loss of travel documents or if you are unable to go on holiday due to the loss of a loved one. It may also cover lost luggage and any major travel delays that you encounter.

Because there are numerous different types of travel insurance cover available, it is essential that you choose the most suitable travel insurance protection for your needs.

Travel cover is important whether you are going on holiday abroad, going on a skiing trip or you have chosen to holiday in one of the many beautiful spots in the UK. In the majority of cases, your holiday goes off without incident and you have a great time and arrive home, fit and well. However, there is the possibility of accidents occurring, or things not going as planned (before or during your trip), and this is where your holiday insurance comes in very handy.

Events typically included in your travel insurance

The events that are covered in your policy may depend on which type of travel cover you choose to take out and how much you wish to pay. However, an insurance policy to cover travel may typically cover the following.

Health insurance

While in the UK you do not typically have to pay to see a Doctor or for treatment in the emergency room, many countries may charge you to do so and this is typically protected in your travel insurance. For example if you were to suffer a fall whilst in the USA and break your leg, you are taken to the ER and without insurance, you typically have to pay for examinations, x-rays, and medication. If your break requires surgery then you also have to pay for this too, which may all add up to many thousands of dollars or equivalent pounds. If you have insurance behind you, the provider typically pays for the costs, or up to a certain amount. Even an illness whilst in another country may work out costly without cover and again insurance covers you.

If you were to become seriously ill or have a serious accident and an air ambulance was needed then this also typically costs many thousands of pounds, depending on the country you are visiting. Again, your travel insurance is there for you to rely on and claim against.

Various events

There are also various other events that may occur and which may leave you in financial distress if you do not have insurance to rely on. Here are some of the events your policy typically covers, though this can vary among providers, so always check the small print.

a trip that has to be cancelled due to you being confined due to illness or involuntary redundancy;

your trip or holiday suffering from an interruption;

legal costs that arise from a liability claim against you;

protection against the possibility of your travel company going out of business;

lose of your luggage;

airline and / or accommodation supplier failure (say if they go bust);

theft of your luggage or belongings inside the luggage.

Different forms of insurance you may wish to consider

There are different types of holiday insurance you might want to consider taking out. Some forms of travel cover are aimed with a certain type of holiday such as golfing, UK holidays, or winter sports. Others provide cover for different aspects such as airline failure or the possibility of you becoming redundant and not being able to go on holiday. Always ensure that you check out the benefits and features of each so that you are able to choose the most suitable type of holiday insurance for your needs.

It may be tempting to jet away on holiday without opting to take out travel cover insurance. None of us likes to think of the worst possible scenario happening whilst on holiday, after all, you go on holiday to relax and have a great time. However if you do not take out protection then your time away may be anything but relaxing – if the worst happens it may become very stressful as well as potentially financially devastating.

Travel insurance typically covers a wide range of events of circumstances depending on the policy and the provider offering it. There are numerous factors to think about and possibilities that may go wrong during your trip. For example, have you considered the following?

the sudden collapse of your holiday company before or after you leave;

the loss of your baggage which includes it being stolen or items stolen from it;

legal expenses which may arise;

the possibility of you being taken ill whilst on holiday;

the cost of suffering an illness or injury that meant you had to be brought back to the UK by air ambulance;

the costs of Doctors or Nurses who have to accompany you back;

the cost of medical treatments whilst on holiday.

Any of the above may affect you whilst you are in a different country and in some cases, the costs may be astronomical. If you risk travelling without travel cover insurance and you were to suffer from any mishap or event then you may have to pay out to cover the costs out of your own pocket.

In the event of the worst case scenario, and you ended up badly injured in hospital and had to be airlifted back, it typically costs many thousands of pounds. Insurance does not have to be expensive and it may be a Godsend as it will usually pay to have you brought home.

The different types of travel insurance

There are different types of travel insurance that you may want to consider, depending on the type of holiday you are taking.

Winter travel insurance

For instance if you are taking a winter holiday or travelling somewhere cold to take part in winter sports such as skiing then you may want to take a look at insurance which covers this. Winter sports insurance typically includes insurance for emergency medical costs, such as breaking a limb. You may find that your equipment is covered in the policy, up to so much. The policy may also protect against the possibility of you not being able to go on holiday due to redundancy.

UK travel insurance

Accidents of course do not just happen abroad. They may just as easily occur when you are on holiday in the UK. With this in mind you may wish to take out UK travel insurance. A policy may typically cover the possibility of you having to cancel the holiday due to falling ill or being made involuntarily redundant. It may provide protection in the event that there are delays in travel and you have to stay in alternative accommodation. Stolen or delayed luggage may also come under the policy. Any of these are typical benefits that may be found in travel cover insurance when holidaying in the UK. However, it is important to check the summary of any policy you are considering so you know what is and is not included.
